Settling for mediocracy?

October 5, 2020

This past week some of our horses got a gate open and got out into our yard.  They took a bite or two out of the good green grass in our yard.  I would have thought they would have loved it and thought maybe they were in heaven ...... but NO.....

They walked right by the good green grass and stopped out on the road and began grazing the bar ditch.  They did not like the good (in my understading) green grass but went back to the kind of grass they were used to eating daily as they grazed in the pasture.

This brought to mind an analogy for us ---- are we comfortable with our surroundings?  Do we love being in the same routine, doing what we want, and settling for mediocracy? OR we do strive for something better?  Do we strive to be Godly, God honoring, God fearing, God obeying workers for our Almighty Savior?

Jeremiah 15:16

16 Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy words were unto me a joy and the rejoicing of my heart: for I am called by thy name, O Jehovah, God of hosts.

May I encourage you today that you not be comfortable with your mediocre surroundings.  Instead SEEK GOD with your whole heart and life and walk in His green pastures honoring, obeying, and praising Him!!

The Struggle of a Pre-Nursing Student and Wanna Be Rodeo Kid

The Struggle of a Pre-Nursing Student and Wanna Be Rodeo Kid

Hey Rambling Readers!

Let me start this story off with a little prologue..

I am taking a few classes at the local junior college, one of which being Certified Nursing Assistant class. We  in the CNA class have been in class all semester and are just wrapping up with our finals and getting ready to go to clinicals! (Shhh...don't warn the nursing homes). I am also trying to get a few of my rodeo ponies back in shape after a little break.

So continuing the story.

Last night was lab check offs for the CNA group, which means white scrubs, white shoes, stethoscope, name badge, all the gadgets. So I get home from class about 4:00, and need to be back in town by 5:30 (30 minute drive to town, right?). I'm not going to have time to ride so I decide to put my good horse on the hot walker (Which walks them around...and around...and around in circles..(Which seems like what I do half of the time?! Weird.)) and I run inside to don my white scrubs! Whoohoo! I proceed to do that and fix a little dinner and probably waste a little time and then head back out the door to leave for school.

Then I remember my horse is tied to the hot walker.

So I would like you to picture this..I decide to RUN across the yard and through a red fence and out into the pasture to get my horse.

I. Cant. Run.

As I go flying up to her, she thinks I look like the Michelin Man and starts running backwards. Like going to pull the horse walker over and cause a wreck and I'm late already!

But there are a bunch of weeds (A bunch) around the walker and dirt (Its Southeastern Colorado) and I'm all white. In my process of trying to hop over the tumble weeds, run, and not get my white pants dirty I ALMOST fall over. The horse is still pulling back, I'm trying to stand up..Disaster from the start.

But in the long run, I did get the horse put away and to class on time and I even passed my test.

And I didn't even get a speeding ticket until I was on the way home...

Hope the mental picture of my space case night was enough to make you laugh!

Oh Death Where is Your Sting?

Dear Rambling Readers,

When you signed up to read to the Ramblings you really did sign up to read ramblings...and tonight (this morning? What time is it anyway?) you get to hear all about my thoughts on the "New Best Book EVER"....

THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

I was in McCracken, KS, and decided to download the book to my phone for something to do on the drive to Lakin...I proceeded get out my reading glasses and shush my dad every time he tried to make conversation. Needless to say, I had read the whole book in the course of 5 hours.

If you haven't read TFINOS (The Fault in Our Stars) here is a quick summery. (Spoiler Alert)

Hazel Grace is sixteen and has lungs extremely damaged by cancer. She knows that she has only has a number of  years to live. She meets Augustus, who is seventeen and recovering from osteosarcoma, at a cancer support meeting.
Hazel and "Gus"  immediately hit it off and start falling love. (And like every other teenage girl, I sort of fell in love with they way they fell in love...which is what had me hooked on the book.) Long story short, she and Augustus date, they travel to Amsterdam to meet Hazels favorite author Peter Van Houten. While in Amsterdam Gus tells Hazel that his cancer has returned worse than ever. Hazel Grace stays by his side, falling more in love as time goes on, until he dies. (I may have shed a few tears at this point, making me glad I accidentally bought water proof mascara.)

But the part that really got me was Hazel Grace seeing Gus for the last time. She truly believed that was THEE last time she would ever see him. Making the end of the book utterly hopeless, completely heart breaking, and making me never want to fall in love. Why fall in love if in the end we just have to say goodbye?

While the name of God is used multiple times throughout the book, it is always used in vein and never referring to God himself. While Hazel does admit to praying, she says she does not need to believe in a omnipotent God to pray. She and Augustus talk about life after death (the whole beginning of the book we see hazel preparing for death, and the second half we see Gus preparing for death. The whole dang book is a build up for them to die.) Gus does admit to believing in a capitol S-Something after death but does not say he believes in a heaven or a hell.

Skipping back in the book a little bit, Gus says that he fears oblivion. Then after he dies, Hazel reads Facebook posts to his wall that are along the lines of, "You'll always be in our memories." So therefore he is remembered. Yet when that person dies, those memories are gone. Making oblivion inevitable.

When I finished the book I was left feeling empty. We live a hopeless life where death is inevitable and oblivion is gunna happen. Then I was reminded

1. That I had hope.
2. That there is more after death and that when I die, I know where I am going. I know that when I do fall in a love so deep the oceans would be jealous (A Hazel Grace and Augustus love, or if you haven't read the book-A love like Johnny and June, Roy Rogers and Dale) and I die, or the love of my life dies-As Hazel calls Gus-I know I will see them again. And live with them for eternity. There will be no 'end'.
3. That I will be remembered, because my name has been written in the Lambs Book of LIFE.

I know that if Hazel and Gus were more than fictional characters, and Gus could come back to life to tell Hazel one thing, I know with absolute certainty what he would say.

"Hazel Grace, there is a heaven, there is a hell, there is a God, and I plead with you to get to know him."

I'm really not sure how to wrap up this post up...maybe because it's 2:00 a.m. and the redbull is wearing off...maybe because I'm not entirely sure what this Rambling's point was, except to encourage you that death is not the end of this life. That we have oh so much more to look forward to.

Anyway, I think I'll just leave you with this verse.

1. Corinthians 15:54-57
"Then, why our dying bodies have been transformed into bodies that will never die, this Scripture will be fulfilled:
"Death is swallowed up in victory!
O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?"
For sin is the sting that results in death, and the law gives sin its power. But thank God! He gives us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ."

I hope you have had a great summer so far! If you know me at all (Or follow me on instagram) you will know that my summer has been great...because of two babes that are almost a year old! And I've never blogged about them.

So ramblings readers, meet Briggs Daniel Cranson
 He loves selfies.
He also loves groupies...Especially with his best bud..AKA me
And Kayhil Eli Sharon! (K-Bob for short)
And he really does love me! Sometimes he just doesn't know it sometimes
 Our 6 am snapchat effort....

I've gotten to play cowgirl a little bit this summer....and play photographer a lil bit as well (Something else I long to be!)

Despite the lovely scenery, I love to try to be a cowgirl.

TBT and ... Video Blog?

Today I was going through old pictures and videos on my computer and found this lovely little moment of hilarity. So tonight I am going to do something special, I am doing an early Throwback Thursday, and also posting something debatably embarrassing! Just watch this video and laugh, hopefully with us...not at us.

Summa time is wrapping up...

Hello Ramblings Readers!

My apologies for my lack of blogging this summer but what can I say. I say that at the end of every summer.

This summer has consisted of a lil pizza eating...a lil can chasing... a lil calf roping...lil family time...You know, the usual.

Here are a few things I got to do this summer...

I got to spend two weeks with my awesome cousin!
Make a dummy of myself and chill for a while...
Climb Pikes Peak! (Don't do it)
Show Say Hey Ray in the cutting!
Compete in a talent show:)
Spend time with my kids!

I hope you all had a great summer! Or if you are reading from the down under, a great winter!

Something I would like to bring up is I am hiring out...no. Hiring in. I'm hiring somebody! If anybody would like some math homework, contact me. Jk. (Not really;)

The Obsession of Cowboy Culture?

Im obsessed.

Never miss a good chance to shut up. (Dalton Ward)

If you get to thinking you're a person of some influence, try ordering somebody else's dog around. -- Will Rogers

Worry is like a rockin' horse. It's something to do that don't get you nowhere. -- Old West Proverb
